Swanage is already well known for it’s railway station appearing in the film Dunkirk and daily
allowing visitors to experience a unique steam train journey through the beautiful countryside and
National Trusts ruins of Corfe Castle.
To add to the excitement it has been announced that between March 22nd and 26th March 2019
the world Famous ‘Flying Scotsman’ will be operating five services a day between Swanage and
Norden. The Flying Scotmans last visited Swanage back in 1994 and therefore it is a real treat for the
residents of Swanage and visitors!
Built in South Yorkshire in 1923, The Flying Scotmans was given its name as it was the first ever non
stop London to Edinburgh service reducing the journey time by 8 hours.
The Flying Scotsman was also the first train to break the 100mph barrier in 1934. The most powerful
locomotive used by the railway and the first in the UK to reach that speed.
